Garden Center Jobs

Retail Associate:
Assisting customers in the store and on the register as well as participating in general upkeep and appearance of the store. We wear many hats at Shady Hill and expect everyone to perform tasks based on priority. We would not ask you to perform a task that we haven’t done ourselves!
Here are just a few examples of daily tasks:
-Unloading or moving plant materials
-Assisting customers in finding certain plants
-Watering and spacing plants
-Setting up displays
-Trimming or cleaning plants

Customer Service

We are deeply committed to providing quality plants, most of which we grow on-site. However, we would not be here if it weren’t for our wonderful customers! We need employees who strive to meet customer expectations, whether they’re looking for a price check, or buying a 15 foot tree!
-Experience is not required, we will equip you with what you need to help assist customers.
-Eagerness and willingness to learn. We ask that you are excited and eager about working with plants.
-Operating a register. We have a point-of-sales system that is made specifically for garden centers.
-Answering the phone, taking orders. We do offer plant, mulch and loam deliveries in which you will be required to collect the appropriate information.

Physical & Social Work Environment

As any gardener knows, working outside can be very demanding. You will need the ability to work on your feet, in all elements, for extended periods of time. We have created an environment where we work hard because we love what we do, but we recognize that there is an extremely social aspect to working with nature. The ability to work well and communicate with customers and staff is very important to us!
